got the mid semester break blues

this week we have no classes at rmit, so we can catch up and get assignments done and such. i am currently in my animation class room struggling with istopmotion. this program really gives me the shits. it's so temperamental. go to hell istopmotion. anyway, i have found that, since i started my new job at an establishment which shall remain nameless for fear of being hunted down and snuffed in the middle of the night, that i have spent most of this week catching up on the sleep i miss during the weekend because my shifts are ridiculous and don't allow for much body clock adjustment, and running around after unreliable friends. seriously, dude, answer your phone, it's free. and fyi, two hours is not enough notice to give someone to meet you for dinner, particularly when said person is at uni and therefore spends a lot of time in Melbourne, and you live in melton. and when said person has a life of their own, believe it or not, and is sick of dropping everything when they hear from you for the first time in a year.
anyway, enough of that. i have applied for a job at acmi, one of my favouritest places in the whole wide world. if you knew me you'd know that to be a completely true statement as i'm pretty much there in screen worlds all the time, playing mario kart on wii or watching the short films made by school kids across the state. thems some comfy beanbags. that's why i make it my meeting place. close to flinders and comfy to wait in if the person you are meeting is running late, which is most of the time. the job is in the office and it's half days monday - friday, a decent wage, in the city and being half days is also flexible enough for a second job, comfortably. fingers and toes crossed because i really want this job.
in other news my lovely coffee buddy went for a job last week as an apprentice dental technician and she's such a genius that she got the job. i'm super duper excited for her. so if anybody out there needs some fake teeth made up from january 3rd onward, i know a girl. i had an inkling when she said she had good news, but it's always so exciting to hear stuff like that first hand. if i get this job then i am going to have three solid weeks of coffee dates letting everyone know before you hear about it. or i might crack and facebook the crap out of it. probably not though. i don't like to brag. lol.
my mums wakakirri team got into the final, the fancy final for all the best schools. i'm so excited. the music i put together for it won a gold award. go me. i'm three for three for my lighting and music for wakakirri's and rock eisteddfod's. maybe i should do that for a living. oh but wait, i can't, because the stupid government won't fund rock eisteddfod anymore and now a whole bunch of really great performing arts teachers are out of the job and a huge amount of australia's youth are down a great school experience and will have no good memories of their time at school. if one of the parties was smart they could have got themselves a lot of young voters on board if they promised to pledge $100,000 to the rock eisteddfod organisation a year to keep it going. yep, you heard right, that's all it costs and the government won't fund it. how stupid. fudge getting rid of australia's debt. every country in the world is in debt, we don't care about the debt. not a priority. also, seriously, you think you can stop the boats? other countries are always going to be shit, what with their wars and child prostitution rings and slavery. you will never stop the boats, so stop focusing on that and start bringing back rock eisteddfod. just fix the little things and make us all happy. obviously it's not as simple as this but i am still really angry about the election campaign. it was so pathetic and didn't speak to me at all. politician's are so far removed from real people that they have no idea how to woo us. this is clearly evidenced by the fact that so many new south walshmen and queenslanders voted for tony abbott. what is the world coming too.
i love looking on the sartorialist for fashion inspiration. i have so many ideas running through my head for when i get my sewing machine for my birthday. yesterday i went to my nana's to continue making my birthday dress. it is almost done and i am very excited. it's starting to look really good and i can't wait.
the other day at the boy's house we were looking at nerdy stuff on the net and came across a video of steven moffat talking about the next season of doctor who and how he wants to split it into two seasons so that their are two first episodes and two huge climaxes and there will never be more than a couple of months between seasons. i think this is genius. i'm am really missing doctor who and cannot wait for the christmas episode. but one episode isn't enough, i need more. hopefully all seasons will stay this way so that we can watch doctor who year round. so long as we can buy them together. i mean $95 is already too much to be spending on a season, but if it'll still cost that much with them half as long, i will not be happy. next season looks good though with guest writer's including neil gaiman and that guy who wrote being human. gah, i'm salivating already.

procrastination

so i was just wasting some time waiting for the person on the computer near the wall to get off so i can plug this fucking external hard drive in and get some damn work done [i don't know how video editing fell to me seeing as i am the only person in the group who didn't do film and tv last year and i have no skills in anything but imovie, but it has.]
but i was trawling through some blogs looking at stuff and i thought i'd have a look at this danish street fashion blog because once upon a time a girl called Anne Nygaard stopped lovely_girl and i on swanston street to take our photo for afore mentioned blog to see if our photos had gone up yet, and they have. we're so big in denmark right now. i'm not putting the picture up though because we have weird faces and i also am still not revealing my identity [i like to create crazy conspiracy theories in my head and live in a fantasy world where someone would be reading this blog, think i am fantastic, find out who i am and try to find me, killing me, resulting in my face being all over the news as another victim of the evil interweb.] people who are my friends and already know my identity, please keep it a secret to help me keep the mystery alive, more for myself than for anything else.
[i wrote that part yesterday and saved it so i could go to the library and borrow the complete first series of doctor who before my hold on it expired, and as i have done that and moved on to today, i shall continue moving this post on as well.]
I'm in the production studio at uni waiting for my file to convert so i can get editing. finally something i'm good at, audio. they never used to have the net on these computers, but i guess it's a good thing because converting takes ages when the file is huge. i was originally in production suite 2 because tuesday was completely blank on it, and some girl knocked on the door and tried to tell me she had it booked, but i saw right through her. she didn't have it booked at all, she just wrote her name on the door because she saw that i was in there. well she won't get away with it this time. i'm in edit suite 3 now and i've put my name onto the next three hours so no-one can disturb me.
last night the boy and i went to see the losers. it wasn't too bad but seriously, the big bad guy they were trying to kill was pretty much the worst bad guy in the history of hollywood movies. he had absolutely no motives for any of his actions, he had no back story, his left hand was all mangled and we never found out why, we never found out why he wanted to start a world war, why he had so much money or why he was such a fucking dick. it annoyed me so much. otherwise the character development wasn't too bad, a little shallow and under worked. i think they tried to make up for the fact that the script was lacking so heavily with a shit load of cool slow motion sequences and big explosions. there were so many slow motion sequences. and wacky editing to make boring bits seem more interesting than what they were. they cut up this part where two of the characters were going down some stairs so that it was all snappy and in time with the music like it was some kind of film clip or something. there were heaps of kills songs which i didn't mind, not like bloody iron man and all the fucking acdc. i think the use of inter-titles i guess you would call them, little calling cards throughout letting you know [in case you didn't already] that this is a film based on a comic book] was a little over bearing, little sequences where the characters are in their comic book form and where physical locations have their names stamped over them. if you wanna make a comic book film then make one, don't try and make an action film with little comic book interludes or calling cards. go all the way or don't go at all because it's annoying. iron man, we know it's a comic book film so there's no need to put in any stupid illustrative features or [just as a blatant example i haven't seen since '69] speech bubbles and sound effects panels. there's no need for that. then you have the example of the watchmen which is hyper realistic, looks the way you imagine a comic book to look if animated etc, but they don't go in and out of this and another genre of filmmaking, it's not cheesy, they get the desired comic book effect without all the lame gimmick's. that annoyed me a lot about the film.
chris evans was pretty good as comic relief, very cute. and he's got a bit of a comic book thing going at the moment. it's funny how people somehow seem to fall into these kinds of genre's. jeffrey dean morgan was also in the watchmen, but chris evans is going to be in scott pilgrim vs. the world and he's going to be captain america when that comes out, continuing the role in the avengers series. apparently he also played the human torch in the rise of the silver surfer, and was one of the voices in TMNT. and who could forget johnny storm in the fantastic four? me, i didn't even go and see the fantastic four because it looked crap.
the babe from up in the air anna kendrick is going to be in scott pilgrim vs the world too, and michael cera as scott pilgrim. should be a good film. and kieran culkin, macaulay's brother who played igby in igby goes down is also in it, so i guess is a great, strong, ensemble cast makes for a good film then this one out to be great. it's about a guy [cera] basically who must defeat his new girlfriend's seven evil ex-boyfriends in order to win her heart. if that isn't a recipe for success then why am i even trying to head into this industry?
anyway, enough rambling, let's just leave this discussion at max [big bad from the losers] is a shit bad guy and no amount of killer moves and big explosions and slow motion will fix that. in horror the whole bad guy not having a motive things works great. do we know why hannibal lector liked to eat people? no. does that make silence of the lambs a bad movie? no, it makes it scarier because if there is no motive or probably cause then how are we meant to hunt down these psycho's? but in action films you need motive to be driving the action. we know why the losers wanted to find and destroy max, to clear their names and get revenge on the guy that fucked them over and killed all those innocent kids. but what were max's motivations to begin with? he just seems like a dumb child, and dumb children don't have the kind of power, malice and money that he had. i hope they explain it in the sequel.
in other news, last night i found out that the boy forgot to watch doctor who this week even though he didn't have work at the same time and he had a tv at his disposal. how could he? yesterday i wore a bow tie and seeing as i didn't go home last night, i am wearing it again today. so the boy got out his bow tie and is wearing it today too. i also convinced him to wear his tweed jacket. i have my own little doctor who now. he said he was uncomfortable being so dressed up and he felt like he stood out, so i just told him "we're on brunswick street, you'll do anything but stand out". we went to the pancake parlour for brunch. we slept in really late on account of not getting home from the movies until about 12.30am, which is late, and then after discussing the film for ages we wouldn't have actually gone to sleep until about 2. i tried to go to sleep but he kept talking. that's what happens when you work at a place where your hours are something like 9pm til 3-5am.
